Founding Designer for the Film Zone
Introduction
The Film Zone is a social media startup based on film appreciation across platforms.
I worked alongside the founder to execute a systematic and foundational design language that fit the 3 month sprint for launch.
The Approach
I designed a core flow of interactions, behaviors, and features that defined the next big movie recommendation application. Working alongside development and founder meant quick fixes, broad scope, and big ideas.
The strategy for the initial engagment of users was essential — we created a social-first film-watching experience, so that you’ll never see another bad movie… unless your friends, curators, famous people have bad taste.
Like all great ideas, we discovered the core interaction flow by playing. We decided to educate users through the onboarding experience, a light version of the main flow. This way our user knows exactly how to stamp and rate a film, the core element of our product.
Impact (stats we're watching at launch)
Balancing adoption and intuition by watching the onboarding experience, tracking dropoff, and where individuals stop filling out profile / tracking movies.
Initial engagement for the core features of feed-based curation, as well as saving movies user intends to watch.
Social proof and sharing where users will invite friends and family to the platform, and where these users follow through or dropoff.
